On April 2nd we hosted the annual AMC/USFS Alpine Stewardship Training at Pinkham Notch Visitors Center in the White Mountains, NH.
Each year this dedicated group of volunteers gathers together to discuss the successes of the previous year, learn about AMC citizen science efforts in the alpine zone, freshen up their skills on visitor interaction, and get the annual updates from the AMC and USFS. With the expansion of the Alpine Stewardship Program on Mt. Washington we had additional contributions by our partners from the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Mt. Washington State Park.
Between Franconia Ridge and Mt. Washington we have at least one Alpine Stewardship volunteer interacting and educating visitors on the alpine environment nearly every weekend May through October. Keep an eye out for these knowledgeable and friendly volunteers on your next weekend outing. Make it a point to say Hi and learn a bit about their work to preserve the fragile alpine environment.
