The last teen volunteer crew of the summer in Maine dove
into trail work with high energy, putting the finishing touches on the Lodge to
Lodge ski bridge near Gorman-Chairback, installing a trail-hardening set
of log crib stairs on the Henderson Brook trail, brushing out ski trails for
the winter season, and continuing Appalachian Trail corridor boundary
While everyone missed one of our crew members who left early in
the session due to an ankle injury, the crew enjoyed challenging days on the
trail and the relaxed life at base camp. Birthday celebrations marked the first
and last days in Maine, complete with candles to blow out on a layer cake and
then experimental chocolate-bacon breakfast muffins, baked on site!
Highlights included spectacular sunsets on the floating
dock, owls swooping though camp, and hanging out around the campfire at night.
Thanks to a hardworking crew for finishing out the season
on Long Pond!!
