For the fourth year in a row AMC will be partnering with NH-Jobs for America's Graduates (NH-JAG) to offer summer work experiences to JAG students from Berlin and Woodsville High Schools this summer!
With generous support from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the Caswell Foundation of New Hampshire AMC Trail Crew Leaders will work with up to 24 students over the course of 7 weeks learning about conservation and engaging in hands-on stewardship activities on public lands across northern New Hampshire. Berlin and Woodsville JAG studnets will work with the AMC Trails Department, in collaboration with the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire State Parks, White mountains Community College, and other regional partners on a variety trail work projects while at the same time learning about natural resource management, conservation, leadership, and career building experiences.
New for 2014, we plan to offer day stewardship opportunities for NH-JAG students from Laconia, North Conway, and Manchester on trail projects that will be co-led by Berlin and Woodsville NH-JAG students!
Please join me in welcoming our two AMC/NH-JAG Trail Crew Leaders for the 2014 summer season:
Alana Scannell
Hello!
I am from the Boston area and graduated from the University of New Hampshire
last spring with a degree in social work. I used my first winter out of school
as play time and took a 2.5 month long solo trip to India and Nepal. The
Himalayas were stunning, but I am psyched to be back in my home mountains for
my third season with the AMC/NH-JAG program!
Merike YoungsHello!! This is my first summer working with the
AMC/NH-JAG program, and I couldn't be more excited! I grew up in central NH
dreaming of spending extended periods of time on the trails, but this will be
my first serious trail work experience. I am graduating from Saint Anselm
College this spring with a degree in Classics. I look forward to seeing where
life takes me from here, and I am thrilled to start off with a summer in the
mountains working with amazing people, hanging out in the woods, getting dirty,
and enjoying life!
We very much look forward to working with the talented and diverse students from Berlin and Woodsville, NH on exciting trail projects this summer. We will be posting on the Bolg regularly, be sure to keep an eye out for NH-JAG posts in the future.
See you on the trails,
-Alex DeLucia
